Gridlock

Gridlock

Politics and Religion are discussion subjects that many people avoid because there is likely to be passionate beliefs and values involved that could conflict.  That is a loss for the people involved because there is a rich and varied history that provides an insight to ones’ worldview which is another subject that makes for  lively discussions. We humans all have a unique life experience. It is what make us interesting and creative. But the same varied life experience is the source of disagreements, conflicts and even wars. You ask how can a friendly discussion become a shouting match between two intelligent people?  It is due to how our brain works under certain circumstances. That is not to say we cannot train the brain to respond differently but this is not likely without some practice before the  participants are in gridlock. Many times, one of the persons is motivated to reach out to the other with a peace offering. But a peace offering may not be enough if it does not address the relationship’s loss of trust and respect. If the relationship is not repaired then there will remain an awkwardness or avoidance in the relationship.
